A few details
In this study, floating bodies with different shapes are tested with same initial tilting angle then released to find its stability condition. The time to reach stability is then recorded to compare which shape has the fastest time to reach stability. The model it self is a hollow concrete model floating on a water.
How we solved it
There are various ways to solve this problem in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and the most suitable and easiest way to deal with complex model and large displacement object is using overset meshing technique.
In this project, openFOAM CFD software is used with overInterDyMFoam solver which is the combination of overset mesh and multiphase solver.
